What does a CASA volunteer do?
The goal of every Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is to ensure that each child is placed in a safe and loving permanent home.
Voices for Children's Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), are trained volunteers appointed by a judge. They work with the juvenile court system to speak for the best interest of Carroll County's abused, neglected and/or abandoned children. The child's CASA explains to them the events that have happened, the reasons they are in court, and the roles of the judges, lawyers and social workers.
The advocate is a friend, role model and often the only constant figure in a child's life. Voices for Children is a member of the National Court Appointed Special Advocates Association and a member of Maryland CASA Association, the only organizations that empower everyday citizens as appointed officers of the court to advocate for children in need.
CASA volunteers work directly with key county agencies: social workers, foster parents, teachers, Community resources: doctors, therapists, institutions, and legal counsel: attorneys, both for the child and for the parents. A CASA uses this information to represent the best interest of a child in juvenile court.
Voices for Children CASA volunteers, while remaining objective, also encourage the child to express his or her own opinion and hopes . These CASA volunteers are working to ensure Carroll County's abused, neglected and/or abandoned children will have a safe permanent home.
